OUR MATERIALS
Every Vihanga Shade Structure is manufactured using Serge Ferrari composite membranes; the world leader in tensile architecture fabrics since 1973. Their patented Précontraint® technology pre-stresses the fabric during production, giving every structure we build exceptional dimensional stability: no sagging, no premature re-tensioning, and a longer service life. It’s the same material trusted for stadiums, airports, and landmark buildings worldwide. And it’s what we use in every project we deliver, from a residential car park to a five-star hotel canopy.
Suraj Ranaweera
Founder
Suraj Ranaweera founded Vihanga Shade Structures in 2013, bringing over 20 years of international experience in the tensile fabric industry to Sri Lanka. Before starting VSS, Suraj spent 12 years at Skyspan Asia, one of the largest tensile fabric production facilities in the world, where he managed a workforce of over 600 people across production, pattern engineering, and factory operations for a German-owned, fully export-oriented company. He went on to serve as Project Manager at General Syndicate Structural Steel & Metal Fabrication in Qatar, overseeing tensile fabric structures from tendering and material sourcing through fabrication, installation, and final handover.
That international experience gained on some of the world’s largest tensile fabric projects is what shapes how VSS operates today: in-house control over every stage, from design to installation, and a standard of quality benchmarked against global manufacturers rather than local competitors alone. Under Suraj’s leadership, VSS has grown into one of Sri Lanka’s leading tensile fabric structure companies, trusted by hotels, resorts, and commercial developments nationwide.
